Factors of a sinking foundation
There are two main factors that will affect your home’s foundation and cause it to sink:
- Soil – the type of soil that your home is built on is a large factor in the stability of your home’s foundation. Clay soil, a common soil composition in the KC Metro area expands and contracts with moisture and heat.
- Weather – large water downfalls can weaken foundations and cause them to sink. Even water accumulation around your home’s foundation can cause damage (we have great tips on our blog about this very topic)
Is your home or building #kingpierstrong? Many buildings and homes throughout the USA are sinking due to a few factors. I can assure you that the Midwest is still in a drought. We install King Piers every day and after rain, it’s dry as a bone 4ft down from yard elevation. One summer, I was on a project in Kansas City and it was a very hot sunny day. Not a cloud in the sky. The night before we got 3″ of steady rain. I went searching in the people’s yard and seen cracks that were at 3/4″ in width.
